Founded in Paris in 1994 by Prosper and Martine Assouline, Assouline stands as the first luxury brand in the cultural sphere. The brand's roots run deep in the world of visual storytelling and rich narratives. From the outset, their aim was to create a contemporary library that embodies the beauty of knowledge and culture. Driven by their passion for knowledge, culture, fashion, and travel, the Assoulines have expanded their vision to include over 1,700 titles across three main collections.

The luxury brand for culture
In 1994, Prosper and Martine Assouline founded a cultural luxury empire in Paris that has since blurred the lines between publisher, design studio, and lifestyle brand. From their initial vision of creating a modern library that reflects the beauty of knowledge and culture, Assouline has evolved into a global provider of over 2,000 titles – in the fields of architecture, art, fashion, travel, gastronomy, and more. Today, the brand portfolio encompasses not only books, but also decorative objects, scented candles, and library accessories – a statement of cultural elegance and intellectual experience.
Books as works of art
At the heart of Assouline, however, lies the creation of books that are as informative as they are beautiful works of art. Each cover is meticulously hand-bound, and every stack of pages testifies to luxurious paper and a rich texture. In a digital world, these works, with their high tactile and emotional value, offer a counterpoint. "For us, books are a matter of intellect and emotion, of heritage and innovation," say the founders. This approach makes them powerful communication tools that strengthen both brand identity and audience engagement.
Library Collection: The Step into Interior Design
In late spring 2025, Assouline unveiled its Library Collection, a collection of luxurious home accessories: bookends, trays, hourglasses, jewelry dishes, and an artfully crafted backgammon set made from materials such as leather, walnut, and brass. Curated by Alex Assouline and designer Pierre Favresse, each piece is handcrafted and reflects the brand's cultural DNA, creating a stylish "home library" experience that blends literature with design.
Assoulines candles
Alongside the books, Assouline launched the Travel From Home scented candle range in 2023, which brings travel to life – created by perfumer Jérôme Epinette. Aromas like Mykonos, Tulum, or Gstaad become atmospheric companions for your own home. They, too, adhere to the aesthetic credo of craftsmanship and atmosphere.
collaborations of Assouline
Assouline is known for its collaborations with luxury brands such as Gucci, Olympia Le-Tan, and Oliver Peoples. A highlight, however, was the collaboration with Roc Nation and the artist Daniel Arsham: In February 2025, a limited edition of five sculptures of The Book of HOV, dedicated to JAY-Z, was released.
Flagship boutiques & global presence
After its founding in Paris, Assouline expanded rapidly, opening its first boutique in Paris in 2006 and following it with its first flagship store in New York in 2007. Further locations followed: London, Madrid, Sydney, Bal Harbour, Houston, Mexico City – and in 2024, an elegant location on New York's Madison Avenue. The stores are not merely retail spaces, but rather sensual intellectual salons featuring events, lounge bars, and design objects.
Today, Assouline is more than just a publisher. It is a global luxury lifestyle company that combines books, design, fragrance, and culture into a holistic experience. With its unique blend of craftsmanship, art editions, international presence, and sustainable responsibility, Assouline is redefining modern luxury and shaping it timelessly – in harmony with intellectual and cultural audiences worldwide.
